The 21 year old mall established in 1988 can proudly boast of its first Lord & Taylor department store, the IMAX theatre and also the Dillard's. But everything did not remain the same, the Dillard's was closed down in August 2008, the Lord & Taylor, converted into Foley's and the entire area became Macy's after The Federated Department Store got it hands over the May Department Store.

The Alamo which attracts the highest number of tourists has a Joshke's joint at its corner which reopened in 1988 to launch its reopening with the Rivercentre mall. It attract several visitors and its area is such that The AMC theatre occupies about the majority of space with only about the minimal part of the five storey occupied by the Dillard's, and the majority of it remaining unoccupied.

San Antonio in order to improve its tourist base is planning to replan the development of the mall. The San Antonio's Historic and Design Review Commission is already working on the revival proposal and hopes to redevelop it soon. The proposal has plans for inclusion of a five-star hotel and several other malls and other site seeing places in its initial plan. It is also working on the revival plan of Joshke's in its following phases by opening offers for the usage of its vacant places.

Also as the grapevine goes, the Joshke's is already taken up by Ashkenazy for its revivement purpose. It is planning to add a more luxurious and huge hotel as its final phase with the expansion of its already extravagant parking space and providing another parking space in other part of the area as well.
